C.U.P.E 54 Members
We will be holding a Special Membership Meeting in the coming days, to update everyone on the status of Negotiations. Please watch your email, our website cupe54.com and workplace bulletin boards for the date and time of the meeting. We will try and accommodate all work schedules.
In the interest of full transparency from your executive we want to ensure that you the membership have all the information and not just what the employer has sent out. Your employer had agreed to meet to bargain on June 13th and then on arrival refused to negotiate. Your Union was forced into a position to have to file for a No Board Report with the Ministry of Labor. There are a number of things that can happen during this process, including a Strike Vote. We will elaborate more at the meeting.
At the Special Membership meeting, we will explain how we ended up in Conciliation and how that process went. We will talk about the difficulties trying to negotiate with a hostile employer who has attempted to undermine your bargaining team. We will update you on the hours of work agreement and how your employer refused to even bargain or allow the union any input on.
During Negotiations your bargaining team has been supporting all members of local 54, trying to get an agreement that benefits all. That has always been our goal. Your employer has continually tried to institute language that affects only one group. We cannot achieve a superior collective agreement without your support. Please come to the Special membership meeting to get more information and have any questions answered.
Regarding the employers email giving information that is supposed to be kept confidential until a deal is reached, this is the employer further trying to undermine the negotiations process. It’s very unprofessional and shows a lack of integrity on their part. Further more it sets back labour relations and fosters an increased lack of trust between the membership and the employer.
